The village of Orgnac l’Aven lies at the extreme south of the department Ardèche, close to the Rhone valley (at 20 Km from Pont Saint-Esprit). It’s territory (2200 ha), lying for most part on the southern hills of a limestone plateau, stretches from the ‘bois de Ronze’ (290 M) at the north side, looking over the Ardèche gorges, to the Roudil plains south, close to the Cèze valley. It’s a small village with only 380 inhabitants in winter, but this number grows about ten times in summer.

Orgnac l’Aven essentially lives from tourism and agriculture.

  - The most important tourist attraction is the Grand site d’Orgnac – Caves*** and the regional prehistory museum. Being one the highlights of the Ardèche, the site has benefited in 2000 from the operation “grand site de France”.  At present, the ministry of environment has nominated the whole cave system (the part of the classic tour, the part with limited access during potholing expeditions and the conservation area) to be listed as UNESCO World Heritage.

In 1999, the wine of Orgnac l'Aven has got the label of a high-quality wine from an identified vineyard, with the name Côtes du Vivarais.
Other agricultural productions are the fruit trees (cherries, apricots)   and the olive trees.

So if your road takes you to Orgnac l’Aven, you will be welcomed in a real Mediterranean village, where wine, olive oil and a lot of sun, will help you enjoy your stay.
